CANCELLED: Tansy Hoskins on the global impact of clothing

17 March | 18:00 - 19:00

Tansy Hoskins is the author of the newly released “Foot Work”, an exposé of the dark origins of the shoes on our feet.

This lecture is part of a series of events for Global Week 2020 hosted by the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of Portsmouth.

Tansy Hoskins is the author of Foot Work – What Your Shoes Are Doing To The World which will be published in March 2020.

In this urgent, passionately argued book, Tansy Hoskins opens our eyes to the dark origins of the shoes on our feet. Taking us deep into the heart of an industry that is exploiting workers and deceiving consumers, we begin to understand that if we don’t act fast, this humble household object will take us to the point of no return.

In 2017, 64 million pairs of shoes were manufactured across the world every single day. They have never been cheaper to buy, and we have never been more convinced that we need to buy them. Yet their cost to the planet has never been greater.

Her first book Stitched Up – The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion, was selected by Emma Watson for her ‘Ultimate Book List’. Emma informs us that “By the end of the book, she makes a strong case for nothing less than a revolution.”

Tansy works as a journalist, producing current affairs documentaries and writing articles about the garment industry. This work has taken her to Bangladesh, Kenya, Macedonia, and the Topshop warehouses in Solihull. She lecturers across Europe on the politics of the fashion industry.

Book your place via Eventbrite.
