The installation, described as “An exploration into the sonic environment of Portsmouth and Southsea,” is the work of final year BSc (Hons) Music and Sound Technology students George Lee, Max Jones, Ryan Aldis, and Sam Harper.
The project is part of the Sound Application unit of the course. It will feature an installation that seeks to draw the attention of users to the “unique sonic experience that goes unnoticed as we travel through our everyday lives.”
To do this the group selected four locations that spanned from urban to natural environments; the Seafront, Portsmouth town centre, Gunwharf Quays, and Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth Football Club. The group recorded collections of sounds from each location to be accompanied in the installation by a range of videos and time-lapses.
The installation will be interactive, using motion tracking software to let the participants control which of the four collections of sounds and visuals will be played.
