Reviving the crescent: Portsmouth connects with Asia (Being Human event)

18 November 2015 | 18:30 - 20:30

Portsmouth is often mistaken for being a monocultural, jingoistic and reactionary city.

Presenting a very different narrative, creative and cultural industries lecturer Tom Sykes will discuss Portsmouth’s role as a global city with close cultural and literary connections to Asia.

After the lecture, British-Asian writers will read from their work about their experience of migration, integration and cultural encounter. Writers include Sarah Cheverton (Portsmouth born and bred, travelled extensively in Asia), Avie Olarte (Filipino writer based in Manila but reflecting on Portsmouth via Skype), Mustafi Rahman (Bangladeshi writer based in Portsmouth) and Studip Sen (Indian-Austrlain who now lives in Portsmouth).

This is a Being Human festival event
