Department of Ability: ‘Born to be different; Born to save the world’ talk

26 January 2016 | 16:00

The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries School of Art and Design welcomes all to a talk by Artist, Illustrator and Animator of Department of Ability entitled Born to be different; Born to save the world!

The talk will take place in the University of Portsmouth’s Park building room PK 3.03 at 4pm on Tuesday 26th January.

The Department of Ability is a gang of superheroes who use their disabilities as super powers. The animated characters were created by Dan White who’s daughter, Emily, was born with Spina Bifida. Dan is hoping to enter the comic book world with his characters in March this year and is grateful for any support through Tweeting the Department of Ability and donating funds for the comic book – all information can be found on Dan’s website.

Dan’s idea to start the Department of Ability formed after he realised the immense lack of positive media coverage for disabilities. When looking for relevant heroes to show his daughter, he found none.

Don’t miss Dan’s talk on Tuesday 26rd January and hear all about his adventure and methods from turning an idea into a comic book.
