Several members of staff from across the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries are singing in the University of Portsmouth Choir performing Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at St Mary’s Church in Portsmouth on Saturday 21 March. They include Michele-Anne Dauppe (Head of School of Art and Design), Sue Noble (School of Art and Design), CCI’s Promotions Manager Denise Callender, Suzy Wise (School of Art and Design), CCI’s new Dean of Enterprise and Innovation Joan Farrer and CCI’s former Associate Dean of Research and School of Art and Design lecturer, Dr Jenny Walden.
The choir has a focus on developing vocal skills, music reading and general musical knowledge in an engaging and enjoyable environment. The choir is led by an expert member of staff and is one of the University’s flagship musical ensembles: it has toured throughout Europe and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. The conductor is Dr George Burrows from the School of Media and Performing Arts.
This term the choir is preparing marvellously tuneful music by the Italian opera composer, Giacomo Puccini for a concert with a professional orchestra and star soloists, to include Puccini’s Gloria, operatic arias, the Preludio Sinfonico and Puccini’s rarely performed Mottetto per San Paolino. The choir practice takes place in Eldon on Wednesdays and offers a great sing and a great way to engage with one of the greatest figures in musical history while learning a lot about music and singing. Further ahead, the choir will develop a programme of lighter music for a gala university concert and a mini-tour to the Isle of Wight in the summer. New members can enquire about joining by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come and support fellow members of staff and students! We hope to see you there.
