Theatre of Avoidance is a student made company, established in 2016, and made up of seven BA Drama and Performance students. This year Theatre of Avoidance aim to confront mental health and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Following on from their Letters of Gratitude event taking place on the 22nd of March, which you can read about here, Theatre of Avoidance are celebrating our service men and women, with their biggest event yet.
An Evening with Heroes will take place on Friday the 27th April, at the Square Tower, from 6 pm, until 9 pm.
The evening will begin with hor d’oeuvres and champagne upon arrival, continuing with an evening of live music, dancing, speeches and much more.
Theatre of Avoidance hope to change the stigma surrounding mental health and PTSD, they want to learn from, listen to, and support those suffering with PTSD after returning from the military.
The team want to reveal the issues behind mental illness and help the local community better understand it, as well as providing an opportunity for those suffering with PTSD to connect with others and share their experiences.
The Theatre of Avoidance team are: Bronya Creary, Giellane Athea, Sam Bertram, Gemela DeSouza, Gareth Turner, Millie Arkhurt, and Sharon Chowlia.
The team are also participating in Tough Mudder on the 24th of March, to raise money for Combat Stress, and Solent Mind, you can donate here.
