Call for Commissions and Short Films: Journeys Festival International

Journeys Festival International 2020, which will run digitally 28th September – 18th October this year, has just released a call out for new artists’ commissions and screening opportunities. We would like to put this opportunity forward and encourage students and staff from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of Portsmouth to take part.

Journeys Festival International celebrates the creative talent of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists and shares the refugee experience through great art. They are seeking artists to create new commissions, each with a fee of £1,500 (to include production costs), in any art form, that can be created for digital sharing as part of the Festival. Artists may propose work currently in development, or may choose to respond to one of the Festival’s three 2020 themes:

  1. The World we Live In

  2. Creative responses and sharing stories

  3. Hope and Celebration

Proposals may be for new work in any art form, and may include digital/online art, short films, performance documentation, wallpaper/desktop art and memes, and applications may be from artists based anywhere in the world.

Journeys Into Film is the film and cinema strand of Journeys Festival International which celebrates the creative talent of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists and shares the refugee experience through great art. They are currently looking for artists to submit short films and video works to showcase at this year’s festival. Applications should seek to explore stories of belonging, migration, education and women’s empowerment and will highlight global issues of displacement and refuge. Each selected film will receive a fee of £300 to screen the film and for the filmmaker to take part in a 40min online Q&A about it as part of the festival.

The deadline for both commissions and short films is Friday 19th June, 10am and all work must be ready for online sharing by Tuesday 1st September.

The full guidelines and submission criteria can be found here for commissions and here for the short films strand.
