POSTPONED: Acting Fundamentals Short Course

The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of Portsmouth is pleased to announce an Acting Fundamentals course taking place in April 2020.

This intensive short course was initiated by Dr Catherine McNamara, Head of School of Art, Design and Performance, and is targeted to those with existing drama experience aiming to develop practical skills, prepare for auditions or apply to Drama Schools.

The course is led by Ian Nicholson and is open to participants aged 17+, primarily students, recent graduates and local actors. Starting on 14th April, the sessions will run across 4 days in the University’s purpose built drama studios. People who have some experience of drama and performance at school, college or university can take this opportunity to develop through this practical, intensive acting skills opportunity. The course would be beneficial for people planning to audition at Drama Schools for example, or who would like to attend auditions for acting roles of various kinds.

Ian Nicholson is a freelance director based in London and Portsmouth and trained as a director at the National Theatre, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and École Philippe Gaulier. He was Associate Director for the National Theatre on “We’re here because we’re here” created by Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller, and Rufus Norris. Ian has worked as a director for Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre, and Royal and Derngate Northampton, among others. He has previously taught at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, LIPA, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and East 15.

The course can be booked on the University online store.
