Portsmouth Lecturer becomes Reviews Editor for Transnational Screens

Dr Yael Friedman, Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Film Production at the University of Portsmouth, has recently been appointed as Reviews Editor for the Transnational Screens journal published by Routledge.

CCI’s Professor of Film and Screen Studies Deborah Shaw and her co-editors Armida de la Garza (University College Cork) and Ruth Doughty (Liverpool John Moores University, previously of the University of Portsmouth) are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their Routledge journal Transnational Cinemas.

They marked the anniversary with a change of name – Transnational Screens – to reflect the way screen culture has changed over the years with the growth of streaming practices, a change they have written about in their co-authored editorial.

The milestone was also marked with a special issue with invited contributions from some of the leading academics in their field. The team behind the journal was also pleased to announce the appointment of Departmental Research Degree Coordinator in the School of FMC, Dr Yael Friedman as Reviews Editor, after Patti Gaal-Holmes stepped down from the role after 10 years of hard work and service to the journal.

Transnational Screens is one of the leading journals in the field and has been an extremely valuable source for my own research on transnational cinemas in the past ten years. I am thrilled to take this position and have the opportunity to be part of the editorial team.” – Dr Yael Friedman
