BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design student Ralitsa Yankova from the University of Portsmouth was recently awarded a Special Mention by The City Academy Awards for her project 21st Century Coffee House.
The City Academy is a very popular and highly valued institution in Bulgaria and they have organised an architectural and design competition for student projects since 2014. This year, a total of 101 projects were selected, 80 of which were in the Buildings and Internal Spaces category, including Ralitsa Yankova’s.
The student from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries created the 21st Century Coffee House as part of her first year of studies and it proposes revamping an existing 4-storey building in Southsea to allow more light inside. The City Academy judges recognised the passion and the quality of Ralitsa’s work. Therefore, she received a Special Mention for her project, despite the vast majority of participants being graduates. More information about it can be found here.
“We want to congratulate Ralitsa Yankova for her excellent work and her courage and perseverance to submit her work among 80 other projects. It is an amazing result, which shows the high-quality projects of our students.” – Dr Phevos Kallitsis, Senior Lecturer
