The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries shares news of Ben Hodgson’s invitation to the ’Taniel Varouzhan Annual Lecture’’ at Ghent University. Ben is a Senior Teaching Fellow in BA (Hons) Film Production, here at the University of Portsmouth.
On 3rd and 4th May, Ben was invited to contribute to the lecture, where the Armenian poet studied between 1906 -1909 prior to his execution under the Turkish genocidal pogrom of 1915 under which 1.5 million Armenians perished.
The event was hosted in the Lecture theatre where Taniel Varouzhan graduated.
As well as screening the multi award winning short film ‘Taniel’, (on which University of Portsmouth Film students worked) Ben read his poem ‘Indelible’ (narrated by actor Sean Bean in the film), around which the film’s narrative is structured. Literary critic and Varouzhan expert, Krikor Beledian also delivered a lecture from his work and ‘Taniel Varouzhan. The Legend exhibition, curated by Kayane Antreassian was also on display.
