CCI Alumna Featured at Art in the Garden 2018

The University of Portsmouth, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries is thrilled to share the success of CCI Fine Art Alumna, Abigail Day.

Art in the Garden is a two week event in June, founded by Jan Griffiths, featuring work of over 16 elected artists and makers working across a variety of mediums including ceramics, glass, metal, stone, wood, and willow.

Visitors are invited to explore Jan’s three acre meadow and studio, and discover ‘hidden’ works around the meadow and along the woodland path.

Along with Jan’s work, which was inspired by a recent visit to Japan, the exhibition will feature work from CCI Fine Art Alumna, Abigail Day.

Abigail won the Boarhunt 4th Plinth Competition, a regional contest to find an artwork to go on the large oak tree plinth.

Abigail from Fareham primarily works with salvaged stone and casted wax, she says she “recreates the original shape with the concrete being a small nod towards what once existed. It makes a striking contrast given the site and surroundings of the plinth”. Abigail is currently on a two month internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

Throughout the event will be a number of workshops and ‘meet the artist’ days.

Art in the Garden will run from Saturday 2nd to Saturday 16th June, from 10am to 5pm every day.
