SURFACE TENSION – be a part of a major arts project at Victorious Festival 2017!

Aspex Gallery, in partnership with Strong Island, Victorious Festival and the University of Portsmouth are developing an exciting new project for 2017/18. Working with local artists, Aspex will be commissioning new artworks to be exhibited as part of a creative arts trail around the site of Victorious Festival in 2017.

Ten artists from Portsmouth will be selected to make new work, which will form ‘creative spaces’ around the Victorious site and will encourage visitors to explore and engage with the artworks.  The artists will be assisted by 10 selected CCI students.

Following the festival, the artworks will be relocated for exhibition in local businesses in the Portsmouth and Southsea, reaching new audiences and extending the trail to a new geographical location.

In February 2018 the work will return to Aspex where it will be showcased in a final major exhibition at the gallery, a venue recognised internationally for showcasing the best of contemporary visual arts. A celebration event will subsequently be held for all involved.

CCI students – get involved!

We are seeking up to ten students from the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries to support the artists in the development of their work.

You will ideally be in your second or third year of study and would need to be available throughout July/August 2017.

You will:

  • Directly assist the artist, from the generation of ideas through to the production of artwork
  • Work alongside Aspex and Strong Island to share the artwork on social media/online
  • Have the opportunity to attend Victorious Festival, assisting Aspex with their on-site activity

This is an opportunity for selected students to enhance their artistic and professional practices, working alongside multiple creative organisations and individuals within the city.

To take part, please email an expression of interest (200 words approx.) alongside your name, course title and email address to Faculty Promotions Manager Denise Callender at by Monday May 15th.
