In need of some relief from all this Euro-overload? Whether or not we vote ourselves out of Europe or our national football team is summarily despatched, there’s lots to laugh about, at least on film.
Beyond the Banana Skin features a lively series of talks, events and screenings devoted to classic film comedy. Forget Wayne Rooney, and enjoy Buster Keaton.
This Thursday 16th June we’re holding a special 90th anniversary screening of Keaton’s deadpan masterpiece The General. The film is introduced by cinema historian and world expert in Keaton, Peter Krämer.
The next day, Friday 17th June, Senior Lecturer in Visual Culture at the University of Portsmouth Eva Balogh will be introducing a rare screening of screwball comedy The Good Fairy. Eva’s wonderful exhibition devoted to Portsmouth cinema usherettes will also be on display in the foyer.
And Saturday 18th June – prepare for some serious funny bone tickling with a live podcast from renowned stand-up comedian, Seann Walsh. Seann will then introduce a screening of the hilarious Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
