Suzy Wise, Course Administrator for the School of Art and Design, is an accomplished hammer and discus thrower, already winning multiple medals this summer season.
Alongside throwing discus and hammer Suzy sings in the University choir, plays flute for a local concert band, and studies towards an accounting qualification.
During the summer season Suzy trains at the track three times a week and attempts to visit the gym a couple of times too. This tough training is all in preparation for competing up and down the country two or three weekends a month, representing Luton Athletic club, Bedford and County Athletic Club, and her county, Bedfordshire.
Her dedication to her training over the last two winters has started to yield considerable rewards. Competing in Ipswich at the beginning of May, Suzy threw close to her personal bests in both Hammer and Discus (as well as having to compete in the javelin, shot putt, high jump and 2000m steeplechase).
The results in Ipswich were: Hammer 45.37m and Discus 35.56m.
At the Bedfordshire County Championships, Suzy won five medals; golds in hammer, discus, shot putt, and javelin and silver in the long jump. She set personal bests in the javelin and long jump on route to the medals.
Suzy recently competed at the South of England championships at Lee Valley where she placed 6th for hammer and 10th for discus. Her current UK rankings are 45th for hammer and 71st for discus.
Congratulations to Suzy for these fantastic achievements.
