World renowned game design expert Dr. Ernest Adams has been appointed Visiting Professor by the University of Portsmouth where he will be offering support to the computer game courses, students, lecturers and researchers through visits, lectures and curriculum discussions.
Dr. Adams has spent 25 years in various roles in the video game industry, and 14 years (concurrently) as a corporate trainer and lecturer in higher education. He is well known within the games industry for his The Designer’s Notebook column on game design appearing in the Gamasutra webzine from 1997 to 2013 and the founder of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). He has published a number of seminal books on game design and worked for games companies including Electronic Arts and Bullfrog. Currently he splits his time between lecturing, consulting, writing and talking at conferences.

Dr. Adams said, “I’m proud to announce that, at the invitation of Dr. Mark Eyles, Principal Lecturer in Game Design and co-organizer of the 8-year sequence of influential Women in Games conferences in the UK, I am now a Visiting Professor at the University of Portsmouth. My appointment is for three years and is largely honorary, but I will visit from time to time to give lectures and discuss the curriculum with the faculty.”
