Designing for the Third Age – Student Design Competition, registration by 15 October

This competition is to encourage students internationally to consider possibilities for different housing scenarios. It provides the opportunity to engage with an issue of Architectural Design to be published in March 2014.

For the Third Age


The winning submissions will be included in this publication. The competition serves to encourage students to think creatively about how we may live in the future and how living spaces must accommodate changing needs and expectations of society.

Can visionary architectural solutions for living in sustainable cities accommodate the change in population? How can our existing housing typologies undergo adjustment as peoples life change? Do we need new typologies to offer new spaces to live in?

The task

To respond to these changing contexts for living, you are asked to consider 5 ‘moments ‘in the lifetime of the home illustrating this emergent change .To explore a series of different living scenarios across a lifetime.
