The University of Portsmouth Choir invite you to celebrate the Bernstein centenary with the Chichester Psalms.
On the 17th of March, the Choir will mark the centenary of the birth of the great American composer, conductor and educator, Leonard Bernstein, with a performance of his Chichester Psalms, conducted by Dr George Burrows.
Bernstein’s setting of the psalm texts in Hebrew is beautiful, tuneful, energetic and modernistic.
It is performed alongside a charcteristic setting of the Lord’s prayer by the Czech composer Leoš Janácek and a choral suite drawn from The Armed Man, which the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins wrote for the Royal Armouries Museum in 1999.
The choir is joined by guest soloists, harp, percussion and organ for this wonderful evening of 20th century choral music.
The concert will take place in St Mary’s Church, at 7.30 pm on Saturday the 17th of March.
Tickets cost just £12, £10 for concessions, and £6 for under 16s
