M.I.N.D.E.R (Men In Need Deserve Equal Recognition) is a company created by seven Drama and Performance students, they thrive to challenge the stigmas around OCD and depression through artistic expression.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that can affect someone in many different ways. It is often looked past as not being serious or carrying the same grandeur as physical illness.
People with OCD often realise that their obsessional thoughts are irrational, but they believe the only way to relieve the anxiety caused by them is to perform compulsive behaviours, often to prevent perceived harm happening to themselves or, more often than not, to a loved one.
M.I.N.D.E.R are working collaboratively with the local community and mental health organisations to create events, and pieces of theatre that break down the stigma, and reach out to those in need, especially young males.
The company will host an Art Workshop on Monday 2nd April between 12.00pm and 5.00pm, at the Coast Guard Studios.
The event is a visual art workshop, created for over 16s, the day will be led by local artist Dave Allen.
The team hope to bring the community together and allow everyone time to talk about, and raise awareness for important issues such as mental health, whilst also having fun.
M.I.N.D.E.R are also hosting weekly pub quizzes! Every Wednesday at 8pm in the Lord John Russell pub on Albert Road.
The quiz is only £1 per person, and each team gets a free portion of Filthy Fries!
