#JourneysFest is a refugee contemporary art platform that aims to celebrate the exceptional talent of the refugee community. Journeys Festival International invites you to two weeks of sensational events.
Across three cities including Portsmouth there will be a range of exciting events going on from interactive artwork, creative workshops and live music, to food demonstrations and pop-up activity.
Events taking place in Leicester (1st – 29th August 2016), Manchester (1st – 12th October 2016) and Portsmouth (10th – 22nd October 2016) are as follows:
Look Up: an outdoor visual arts exhibition in iconic city scape locations
The Container Project: symbolic of export, our container will be hosting innovative art events and workshops
Coffee Shop Conversations: Discuss, raise issues and talk with a person from the refugee community over the ritual of coffee and cake
As well the above events and for one night only, Belarus Free Theatre’s Burning Doors featuring Pussy Riot‘s Maria Alyokhina will be performing at the New Theatre Royal on Friday 14th October 2016 at 7.30pm. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here (Ticket price includes post show discussions with artistic directors, Maria Alyokhina and others).
The latest production from the underground theatre group, Burning Doors, tells the stories of three persecuted artists living under dictatorship and will not be silenced including Russian performance artist Petr Pavlensky, incarcerated Ukranian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina.
