Today, violence will affect millions of women and girls around the world. It’s an appalling violation of their human rights, and it holds them back from reaching their full potential.
This November is the ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ when, every year, women’s rights campaigners come together to demand an end to violence against women. Events are taking place across the UK in a show of solidarity with Fearless women leaders around the world who are working to end violence against women and girls.
In Portsmouth, ActionAid organiser Ben Thomas is running a speaker event under the theme of ‘raising women’s voices.’ The event will take place in the University of Portsmouth’s Eldon Building home to the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries and all our welcome to attend.
Ben said “We’ll be joined on the night by women’s rights activist Jessica Njui, who works to support women and girls who have experienced sexual violence in Kenya. Everyone is welcome and further speakers to be announced soon.
ActionAid is a leading international charity supporting women and children in extreme poverty. We fight for their rights and for lasting change.”
