The gallery called Yellow Edge is due to open at the end of April and is for emerging and established artists. Its ethos is to give artists a platform to showcase their work to a broader audience. Yellow Edge gallery is located at 107 Stoke Road, Gosport, PO12 1LR.
Student artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work as a group, free of charge for two weeks in May. In addition, the gallery will not take any commission on any works sold.
The main requirement of booking the space, is to provide details about yourself as an artist or maker, plus images of your work for the gallery website to promote your exhibition. (The Yellow Edge website is currently under construction). The artists would also need to invigilate their own exhibitions during opening hours.
The standard opening times are Tuesday – Friday 11.00am – 4.00pm, Saturday 1.00pm – 6.00pm, and closed Sunday and Monday. There are facilities for private views, which can be a day and time the exhibitor chooses, by arrangement in advance.
The main gallery space is large with straight white walls and a ceiling height of 10 ft. In total the gallery offers 840 sq ft of exhibition space, has spotlights, a STAS adjustable hanging system and browser racks. The floor plan of the gallery can be viewed here Yellow Edge FloorPlan.
Gallery owner Steve Buggle said “Besides exhibitions we hope to use the gallery for a broad range of art purposes including workshops. We are also developing a talks programme, which will cover a range of subjects besides art including, architecture, music, design, fashion, photography and poetry. I also favour artists discussing their work and explaining their approach, so we will have some of this going on as well”.
