Fabiano Lemes, from the School of Architecture, has recently returned from a trip to Brazil. The trip involved institutional visits to partner institutions such as Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at University of São Paulo (FAUUSP) and Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR) in Curitiba.
At FAUUSP, Fabiano had the opportunity to meet the Brazilian students nominated to undertake a period of exchange at the University of Portsmouth. Fabiano also visited the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and the University of Brasília (UnB), where opportunities for staff exchange, research student exchange and jointly funded research were explored.
Fabiano says that ‘the trip not only helped consolidate our relationship with existing partners, but also start new ones. We look forward to work with colleagues from UoP and Brazil to further develop collaborations’.
Bryony Whitmarsh, Associate Dean (Global Engagement) of Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, and the Faculty Humanities and Social Sciences notes that “we have worked to develop our network of partners in Brazil over the past four years, and it is very exciting to see these conversations developing into opportunities for our staff and students to collaborate with colleagues at our partner institutions.
These opportunities are at the heart of the University’s Global Engagement Strategy. We are looking forward to welcoming a visiting scholar from Brazil to the Faculty in the near future, and also two Architecture students on exchange from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo in the Autumn.”
