Dr Erika Hughes speaks at Yom HaShoah Event

Dr Erika Hughes, from the University of Portsmouth, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries recently spoke at the 2018 Yom HaShoah service of remembrance in Rochester, New York.

Dr Erika Hughes is a Senior Lecturer in Drama and Performance, and has held research fellowships in Jewish Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Free University of Berlin, the University of Bonn, and the Technical University of Berlin.

Erika’s work has been published in numerous journals including the Journal of European Studies, Theatre Topics, Youth Theatre Journal, and Performance Research, as well as a number of edited volumes.

Her work as a director has been seen in the United States, Germany, Israel, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom.

At this year’s Yom HaShoah service of remembrance on Wednesday 11th April, Erika addressed the power of teaching Holocaust history through the arts.

Erika also presented an extract from Survivors, a ground breaking new play by Wendy Kout that will tour local schools, and following the performance, Erika hosted a workshop.
