Take Part in A Pint of Science

The University of Portsmouth is once again participating in the, A Pint of Science Festival, and staff from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries are being called upon to take part.

A Pint of Science is a festival that brings scientific theories and concepts to your local pub, the festival aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest science research, in an accessible format, by bringing the discussion to the public.

The University of Portsmouth has been involved in the festival for two years now, hosting a total of 36 public lectures in local pubs throughout the City of Portsmouth.

A local pub is selected to host each theme over the three nights of the festival, each night will see two speakers engage the audience with a talk, aimed to enthuse and educate them about the subject areas, and research.

Each year the festival has a number of central themes, and for 2018s festival they are: Beautiful Mind, Our Body, Planet Earth, Tech Me Out, and Creative Reactions.

This year the festival will run from the 14th to the 16th of May.

To ensure the event is successful, the University of Portsmouth, A Pint of Science team, are looking for Speakers, and Theme Teams to help out with the festival.

Speakers; six speakers are needed in total for each theme, each speaker is asked to speak for 30 minutes in front of a crowd, about a diverse range of topics within each theme.

Theme Teams; each theme will have a team that runs the three nights, this team will help with the logistics of marketing the event, liaising with the pub, and the speakers, hosting an evening as compére, and maybe even acting as the coordinator for that team.

If you are interested in taking part you can register your interest here, you can also find out more about A Pint of Science by checking out their website, as well as following them on Facebook @PintOfScience and Twitter @PintOfScience.
