On the 30 November 2017 the University of Portsmouth, CCI, Enterprise and Innovation department transformed the Eldon Building into a magical wonderland of stilt walkers, ballerinas, life-size clockwork marionettes and enough digital hardware to make even the most ardent Luddite sit up and take notice.
Why? Because the PONToon project is now firmly underway and it was only fitting that we should throw an exciting launch party. We couldn’t wait to show the world what we’ve been up to.
PONToon (Partnership Opportunities using New Technologies fostering sOcial and ecOnomic inclusioN) is an Interreg 5A France (Channel) England research project running June 2017 – November 2020, led by the UoP’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries with no less than 11 UK and French project partners. The project employs digital technologies and creative practices to provide equal access to training and employment services. Even more brilliantly, PONToon is focused on female social inclusion, targeting those furthest from the labour market.
Throughout the day participants got the chance to experience a range of technology and hear from some fantastic experts in the fields of social inclusion, digital technology and employability. On offer were Motion Capture Tours, a Virtual Reality Experience, Interactive 3D Tilt Brush Demos, Performers and a Digital DJ. The whole thing was rounded off by an informal social and business networking event held at the beautiful Aspex Gallery, in Gunwharf Quays, watched over by the Deputy Lord Mayor no less.
To those of you who joined us, didn’t we have a lovely time! To those who didn’t, don’t worry, we have lots more brilliant events planned as we embark on a journey set to raise aspirations, expectations, and create ladders of opportunity and a community of life-long learning in the Interreg region (Southern England & Northern France).
