Student Competition: Care Innovation Challenge

University of Portsmouth, CCI students can now apply to take part in the Care Innovation Challenge, to help provide solutions for the care sector in an ageing society. 

This competition allows students to take on the challenges that face the care sector, with the chance to receive funding, mentoring, and network support, that will help to take their ideas from concept to reality, with the potential to create social businesses that will create real impact.

The Care Innovation Challenge is partnered with UnLtd, the largest supporter of student social entrepreneurs, and Oopmh! one of the most successful social enterprises working in the care sector.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a ‘hackathon’ style weekend in London, on the 10th and 11th of February 2018. The weekend will start with 12 teams, and each team will present their projects to a judging panel of industry experts.

Five teams with the highest quality ideas will be selected to go through to the next round, with each being awarded a prize of £100 for each team member, as well as a £500 project fund, and assigned an experienced mentor to help develop their idea over four weeks!

The next round takes place on the 10th of March , and will offer teams a chance to win a £15,000 grant to develop their idea further, with the best of the best being put forward to receive long term support, and a £40,000 grant, as part of UnLtd’s Transform Ageing Accelerator.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as recent graduates are encouraged to apply. The Care Innovation Challenge recommend applying as a multi-disciplined team, so to include a range of skill sets and perspectives.

Teams must include 2-3 people, preferably from the same academic institution, but students from all faculties and disciplines are encouraged to apply.

There will be networking meetings for students interested in applying for this challenge, to provide an opportunity to build a team, and start working on an application form, these will be held in the University Library Room 0.35 on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th of December between 2 pm and 3 pm, you can book you session on Eventbrite.
