The University of Portsmouth, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, are proud to announce the appointment of Dr Fabiano Lemes, as Visiting Professor at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Parana (PUCPR) in Curitiba, Brazil.
Dr Fabiano Lemes, Reader in Urbanism and Architecture, was appointed Visiting Professor, following on from his guest lecture, about his book, Green Wedge Urbanism, in March 2017.
Upon visiting Curitiba for a second time, Fabiano stayed for two weeks, during which he delivered a course on Urban and landscape design theory to MPhil and PhD students, including local policy makers.
During his visit, Fabiano took part in a range of research and teaching activities in the School of Architecture at PUCPR, and he even participated at a viva voce examination, an oral counterpart to a written thesis, that allows the author to verbally defend their work. Fabiano’s visit also lead to the development of a Memorandum of Understanding between both Institutions.
Fabiano said about his appointment:
“I am delighted with the appointment and am convinced that we can grow this collaboration in a number of areas, including teaching and research. – Teaching to research degree students at PUCPR not only generated fruitful discussions in terms of the academic debate, but could also lead to potential positive impact on the city of Curitiba”.
Bryony Whitmarsh, Associate Dean for Global Engagement for the faculties of Creative and Cultural Industries, and Humanities and Social Sciences, said:
“This agreement offers us the framework within which to develop our relationship, and the ideas already in discussion are supportive of opportunities for staff exchange, research student exchange and jointly funded research”
