Summer work at the University
Every summer, the University’s Academic Registry employs a number of temporary staff to help at our busiest times of year; for the Graduation ceremonies, when the A level examination results are published to students, and Induction week. These are busy and exciting times for the university, and a good opportunity for temporary staff to get experience of working in a busy environment as part of a team.
Many of the temporary staff we employ are students or graduates who have experience and knowledge of applying to and studying at university, so are well equipped to advise and welcome students and visitors.
We provide intensive training in all aspects of the work prior to the events, and are looking for people who can work at a fast pace, learn quickly and deliver an excellent service.
Graduation: 13th – 20th July 2017
Graduation requires temporary staff to assist with a range of tasks associated with the delivery of the 2016 Graduation ceremonies, including gowning and marshalling. All of the roles involve working with students, guests and staff of the University. Essential requirements of the posts include: high level communication skills, a proactive and supportive approach to customer care, excellent timekeeping and commitment to efficient and effective working.
Please note all applicants for the graduation posts must be available all 5 working days during the graduation period of 14-21 July and for a period of training prior to the Graduation ceremonies (tbc).
Admissions Confirmation and Clearing: 15th – 20th August 2017
This work involves staff taking telephone calls from applicants who have just received their A level exam results, considering their qualifications and making offers or confirming an applicant’s place at the University. Staff will also be answering general enquiries about the university. We need staff who have a good level of IT and numeracy skills, can multi-task and work in a busy call centre environment, speak to applicants in a professional and friendly manner and deliver excellent customer service to our prospective students.
International Student Registration – 11th September – 9th October 2017 (in addition a compulsory training session on either 6th or 7th September 2017)
This period involves registering new and continuing international students who are not from the UK or European Economic Area. The role will require face to face contact with students from over 30 different countries, alongside assessing personal documents and operating IT systems.
We require staff who are flexible, with a good level of IT skills, an ability to grasp processes speedily and efficiently, present a professional manner, with awareness of cross cultural sensitivity and overall an ability to deliver excellent customer service.
