Steve Whitford, Senior Lecturer in the School of Creative Technologies at the University of Portsmouth‘s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, recently visited two of our partner institutions in China – the Communications University China (CUC) and Beijing Film Academy (BFA).
Students studying diploma programmes at both institutions are able to apply to join BA (Hons) Film Production at Level 5 (second year) at the University of Portsmouth, where we currently have students from both institutions. Steve’s visit to China included discussions on reciprocal graduation prizes, staff exchanges, and student exchange opportunities.
Steve met BFA’s Project Manager Ms Gao, Lecturer of Sound Recording Mr Qiao, Lecturer of Film Production Mr Meng and Professional English of Film Production Mr Dong, as well as Mr Yuan, Director of the CUC & BFA project, and Project Managers Ms Zhu and Ms Zhao of CUC.
As well as taking part in discussions on staff and student exchanges and running a workshop for Film Production students at BFA and workshops for Digital Media Art students at CUC, Steve received tours of BFA’s Place-museum, and the Museum of Media Communication and Advertisement at CUC.
“It was a great privilege for me to visit the international city of Beijing in my capacity as Joint Course Leader, to promote the Film Production (BA) course at the University of Portsmouth,” say Steve. “I addressed prospective Chinese students at our partner institutions: Beijing Film Academy and Communications University China and met academic staff to discuss future developments of our relationship. I also met the University’s China Office staff: Leo and Sunny, who played a vital role in the success of the visit with valuable insights, ideas and hospitality. It was a great experience for me, and I look forward to returning to Beijing in the not too distant future!”
We would like to thank Xi WU and the team at the University’s Beijing Office for all their support and co-ordination throughout the visit.
