Professor Justin Smith, of the School of Media and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, is the recipient of the first University of Portsmouth Award for ‘Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year’.
Professor Smith is extremely highly regarded by his research students and colleagues, and his infectious enthusiasm for research supervision is well known. Testimonials from his students show how exceptionally supportive he is with pastoral support when they find themselves in difficulties, and when supporting their progression and preparation for their careers.
During the academic year 2014/15, Professor Smith was lead supervisor of five successful student completions – more than any other supervisor in the university that year – and also every single student completed on time and passed with only minor amendments. Indeed, one of the highlights for the whole university came in 2015 when three of Professor Smith’s PhD students passed their viva within three days of each other.
Professor Smith is an extremely well-deserving recipient of the University of Portsmouth’s first Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year Award.
