Professor Justin Smith’s Inaugural lecture

Justin Smith, Professor of Media Industries and Reader in British Film Culture, has his Inaugural Lecture coming up on Wednesday 2nd December 2015.

The digital age is having a profound impact on how we ascribe cultural value. In this brave new world, what is the future for cultural subsidy, what is the function of cultural mediation and what should be the role of cultural education?

Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, will introduce Justin’s lecture titled: ‘Performing a three-point turn, looking backwards and forwards (or: How to pass the cultural test)’ The talk, lasting one hour, will be followed by a drinks reception, all taking place in Portland Building with a guest list of Justin’s past and present colleagues and those who have inspired his career.
