On Tuesday 29th September 2015, the University of Portsmouth welcomed esteemed colleagues from Politecnico di Milano.
Giovanna Piccinno and Anne Schoonbrodt visited the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, to discuss the collaborative opportunities and synergies. Politecnico Di Milano is made up of two schools of Engineering, two schools of Architecture and one school of Design, they have links with numerous Universities globally and are interested in shared experiences with UoP. Professor Joan Farrer, Associate Dean of Enterprise and Innovation, held a brief welcome to greet Giovanna and Anne, before being taken on a whistle stop tour of Eldon building.
A tour consisting of demonstrations in the Motion Capture Suite and Virtual Reality Lab, before heading over to the new White Swan Building for a look at Portsmouth’s newest facilities. When looking around the performance space(s), Anne was very impressed saying, “It’s like something out of a New York Broadway show”. Once the tour had come to an end, discussion flowed about educational opportunities, including an exciting exchange program, as well as research and innovation possibilities.
Professor Catherine Harper, Dean of CCI, said of the day, “As a University on England’s south coast we are a tiny distance from the rest of Europe and I am delighted to support European connections and networks to the benefit of our students and our innovation ambitions”.
A long day of taking in the variety and vibrancy of the Faculty, ended with dinner and drinks at the Still & West restaurant in old Portsmouth; the perfect end to a day that displayed the best that this City has to offer.
