Student volunteering opportunity – Day decorating/Interior Design at Revitalise

Revitalise is an inspirational national charity. “We provide a genuine holiday experience for disabled adults and their carers. The key word here is about having fun! Our guests have a range of disabilities and medical conditions but we aim to pack in as much fun and adventure as possible! We have one of the largest, most diverse volunteer programmes in the UK and we invite you to be part of this.

Our centres are nurse led and provide 24 hour on call nursing and care, so all of our guests know that they are in safe hands. Outings and entertainment are a key feature of all our breaks and we strive to offer guests experiences that they never thought possible. When our guests have challenged themselves to have a go at a new experience, they can relax by accessing a range of indoor activities or enjoy socialising with other guests.

We believe that we offer a life-changing experience for our volunteers. Our guests are inspirational people who challenge perceptions every day. We challenge you to spend some time with us and not think differently about yourself and your life opportunities…..

LOCATION OF VOLUNTEERING:

Netley Waterside House, Abbey Hill, Netley Abbey, Southampton, Hampshire, SO31 5FA

Our location is easiest to reach by car, but if this is not possible then the closest train station is Netley, which is a 15 – 20 minute walk from the centre. It may be possible to arrange collection from the station depending on resource. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

POSITION IS SUITABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING FACULTIES/ AREAS OF JOB INTEREST:

  • This is open to students from all faculties and disciplines
  • Most relevant to those studying creative subjects
  • Perhaps interested in Painting, Decorating, Maintenance or Interior Design careers

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Can you help us make our unit a more beautiful place? Or maybe you just fancy doing something a bit physical after all that studying!? We need people to help us maintain and improve our environment.

Many of our guests are in wheelchairs, some use walking aids and this means that our building and paintwork takes a fair amount of battering! It is an endless task to make sure that the unit looks as good as possible and although it might seem like a small thing, it makes a big impression. If a guest arrives and sees scuffed paintwork or broken items, it says to them “you don’t matter” and we don’t want a single one of our guests to ever feel like that.

If you could lend us your time and skills in painting, decorating and maintenance we guarantee to give you a whole lot more in return. There will be an opportunity to work in a team with our skilled staff and other volunteers, you will get to see the difference you make for our guests and you get the genuine satisfaction of achieving something as a team.

We would also love to hear from you if you have a flair for design and want to come and share your skills with us. This might mean spending time talking to our guests about what they want from their surroundings, what makes it feel like home, what makes it feel like a holiday experience. Come and share your creativity with us and leave a lasting legacy!

TIME COMMITMENT & TRAINING:

Let us know when the time that works for you and we will find an opportunity to suit you! Ideally, we require a commitment of at least half a day per week, for a minimum of 6 months.

Revitalise is place that is dedicated to fun and adventure and we reckon this is an unforgettable experience! We will provide you with a full training programme that will tell you everything you need to know about volunteering with us.”
