On Saturday 2 April, the University Choir will perform Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the New Theatre Royal (7.30pm), conducted by George Burrows, School of Creative Arts Film and Media.
The choir has been working since January to prepare this quirky and light-hearted work which benefits from Rossini’s experience as an comic opera composer.
It’s unusual for its levity and its use of two pianos and harmonium for accompaniment. We have raised funds to bring a harmonium from the museum in Saltaire for the concert.
The choir will also be joined by four excellent professional soloists for what promises to be a fun musical evening at the theatre.
If you’d like to come, tickets are available from the New Theatre Royal box office (023 9264 9000) in advance or on the night. You might even treat your Mum for mothers day!
